Session objectives
- Time complementary runs and choose the delivery that creates the clearest chance.
- Coordinate movements between units and adapt to pressure.
- Explore solutions under pressure, then use one successful solution in the final game.
Equipment: Two full-size goals, balls, two sets of bibs, flat markers and cones.
Explore the positional problem
Organization
Front three, both interiors and the right fullback against a back four and goalkeeper. Use the attacking half with full width, a regulation goal and an offside line. Rotate players in the same role after each bout so all squad members practise.
Game task
Release the right winger. The striker checks away to unmark, then attacks the near lane, the far winger the far lane and an interior the cutback. Choose the delivery from the defenders’ positions. Defenders counter through two halfway gates.
Coach observation
Runs arrive as the passer looks up; players occupy different lanes and stay onside.
Roles to connect
- Striker: separate from the defender as the passer prepares the delivery.
- Far winger: arrive at the far side rather than standing on the last line.
- Interiors: stagger the cutback run and protection behind the attack.
Sample club session. Adjust space, load and challenge for the age group and players; all diagrams retain 11v11 / 4-3-3 roles.
