TEAM PRINCIPLEAttacking restartsSUB-PRINCIPLE

Keep balance

Assign cover and a second-ball role.

Required player actions

  • Defensive midfielder 6 positions behind the finishers to read the likely clearance and protect the central pass.
  • Centre-backs 4 and 5 adjust to opposing outlets; one engages only while the other protects depth.
  • Full-backs 2 and 3 keep useful recovery angles as goalkeeper 1 manages the space behind the back line.

Corner with a live counter threat

Starting picture · Blue: Northbridge · Sand: opposition · Gold rings: focus players · White dot: ball

A starting picture for the practice, with the focus players highlighted. Both teams keep their 4-3-3 roles; movement and decisions develop through live play.

Organization

Full pitch, 11v11 including goalkeepers; both teams retain 4-3-3 roles. Start with an attacking corner while the opponents leave their striker 9 and winger 7 as potential outlets.

Practice task

Defensive midfielder 6 reads the clearance; centre-backs 4 and 5 position to control the two outlets, with full-backs 2 and 3 ready to recover. Defenders counter toward the opposite goal immediately on regaining.

What to observe

Across six corners, the attacking team prevents an uncontested central break on at least four and keeps cover behind whichever player engages the first outlet.

Progression

Allow the opponents to send winger 11 forward as the corner is taken; the back line must adjust its spacing and decide whether to challenge or delay.
