TEAM PRINCIPLEFinish the attackSUB-PRINCIPLE

Choose the cross

Deliver to space or a teammate according to pressure and movement.

Required player actions

  • 7 looks at the goalkeeper, nearest defender and arriving runners before crossing.
  • 2 chooses an early ball, a delivery behind the back line or a cutback from the space available.
  • 9 and 11 communicate through timed movement rather than demanding the same delivery every time.
COACHING QUESTION

Where can the runner reach the ball first?

A starting picture for the practice, with the focus players highlighted. Both teams keep their 4-3-3 roles; movement and decisions develop through live play.

Organization

11v11, full pitch, two goals, both teams in 4-3-3 with normal offside. Start with 7 receiving while the back line is recovering.

Practice task

7 compares the space behind the defenders with the goalkeeper's position. Cross early if a runner can arrive first; otherwise continue the attack.

What to observe

Delivery type, pace and target fit the runners' advantage and the goalkeeper's reach.

Progression

Let the defence drop early on some restarts and press the winger on others.
