TEAM PRINCIPLEDeny the finishSUB-PRINCIPLE

Deny the cross

Pressure the wide attacker while protecting the route inside.

Required player actions

  • The near fullback closes the wide attacker with a balanced stance that contests delivery and protects inside.
  • The recovering winger helps against the overlap instead of joining the fullback in the same line.
  • The near centre-back covers the channel and stays connected centrally while the interior protects the inside combination.
COACHING QUESTION

Can you prevent delivery without opening the centre?

Progression
